It is quite apparent that the world is definitely making more use of and well on its way to becoming totally dependent on what is referred to as the Sharing Economy, which essentially is defined as a peer-to-peer (P2P) based activity of acquiring, providing or sharing access to goods and services that are facilitated by a community based online platform. The Caribbean region is in no way devoid from making use of this type of platform for day to day services.
This is more apparent with the recent launch of the pilot Blockchain issued East Caribbean Central Bank Digital Currency. This ECCB CBDC pilot is the first of its kind and will involve a securely minted and issued digital version of the EC dollar (DXCD). The digital EC dollar will be distributed and used by Licensed Financial Institutions Mobile Wallets and Non-Bank Financial Institutions in the ECCU.
The Caribbean consists of 28 islands with an average population of 42.4 million people. Most of these Caribbean islands depend on Tourism as their main income earner and play host to millions of visitors from Asia, Europe, the US, UK and Canada who travel on vacation or to do business.
Caribbean people need to move from one destination to another in a convenient and safer manner than what is currently available.
The current Caribbean transport system consists of Taxi’s, Rental’s, Public Buses and Privately owned vehicles. You either Buy a Car, Rent a Car, Call a Taxi or find a Bus Terminal to get from one location to another. There is an issue of acquiring these traditional services being inconvenient. And, since the current system is a pay by cash only service most drivers don’t want to work late hours.
One company called RIDE Caribbean is seeking to elevate these issues by providing a platform which will enhance existing Transportation, Shopping, Delivery and Payments Services.
RIDE Caribbean is a Multi-Service Caribbean Ride Sharing company on Blockchain based in Saint Lucia connecting Riders to Drivers. Offering Riders the comfort and convenience of door to door on demand services and affording existing Private, Taxi and Public Bus Drivers the opportunity to make additional income. The company’s goal is to provide 24 hour reliable, safe and convenient on demand services. The idea is to create a sustainable eco-system by enhancing existing traditional services.
